WHO wants to be president?!
The first full week of school was definitely eventful, filled with many humorous moments and- of course- homework. One of those humorous moments was in one of the activities we did in AP French. The class was asked a question on what they wanted to do in the future and one of my classmates said he wanted to be the president. The class erupted in laughter because he was known for making jokes like this (and because we all know he's going into med). But he kept a straight face and continued with his response. I thought about whether he may have actually been serious and we just laughed at his dream...
Throughout our lives, we may have experienced, or witnessed, having a crazy dream that we wanted to achieve. But fears may have always held us back: "What if it doesn't work out?", "What will others say if I fail?", "Will my parents even let me do this?". We end up creating barriers for ourselves by planting these seeds of doubt in our heads because we are afraid of getting out of our comfort zone. We could also be discouraged by our peers or even our parents to not pursue something because it's "too hard" or "too unrealistic". Our own adversaries end up becoming ourselves and our own family and friends sometimes.
In the show One Piece, the main character, Luffy, is going through the same experience. He has this dream of becoming the Pirate King and as a kid, this dream was always met by laughter from others. But he refused to take an alternate path and followed his dream. Through every new and stronger enemy he beats, the same people who used to root against him start to root for him. Luffy shows us that our destiny is held in our hands, not others, and to prove them wrong with our actions.
